Personal lubricants aka lube are used during sexual intercourse or masturbation to reduce friction when saliva or other body secretions are insufficient. Here I will explain the production of inexpensive water-based lubricant. For high prices these are available in pharmacies, sex shops and drugstores. So who consumes large quantities or would like to establish a customized lubricant, will find an alternative and selfmade product here.
Note: depending on the chemical composition of lubricants can destroy condoms or sex toys.
Recipe 1: Water-soluble lubricating gel (guar gum)
Take one teaspoon of guar gum (which you can get eg eBay) and dissolve it in small portions in a glass of warm water gently. Not all at once because this will cause lumps. So dissolve a portion the size of a knife point then dissolve the next ste-by-step. The lubricant is immediately ready for use. Produce it always fresh, otherwise it rots and spoils.
Recipe 2: lubricating gel (hydroxyethyl cellulose)
You will need:
- 90 ml distilled water
- 10 g of 85% glycerol (glycerin)
- 2.5 g of hydroxyethyl cellulose
- 0.1 g sorbic acid
- 0.1 g of potassium sorbate
First mix the hydroxyethyl cellulose with the glycerol and soak for 24 hours. Then add the other ingredients. These are mainly used to stabilize the lubricant and may be omitted if they trigger allergic reactions.
Recipe 3: Water-soluble lubricant (cornstarch)
You will need:
- 1 cup water
- 3-5 teaspoons cornstarch
Corn starch is available in any grocery store for little money, it is also known under the trademark Mondamin(tm). Mix the starch and water in a saucepan and slowly bring it to a boil stirring regularly. Slowly cool it to room temperature, do not cool it down in the refrigerator.
Recipe 4: lubricant (glycerin)
You will need:
- 30 g glycerin
- 3 drops tea-tree oil
- 1 teaspoons xanthan
- 1/2 g fluidlecithin super
- 70 ml water
Boil the water at least three minutes. Mix glycerin, tea-tree oil, xanthan and fluidlecithin. Add the water and stir until the xanthan is dissolved. You can add fruit syrup hamameliswater or vanille as you wish. As far as I know glycerin does not destroy latex, but be careful with the add-ons for example tea-tree oil.

Recipe 5: Water-based lubricant (flax seed)
Boil four spoons of yellow flax seed with 500ml water for around five minutes (brown flax seed will work as well, but the color is not that nice). Let the stuff cool down and press through a sieve.
Recipe 6: Artificial Semen - Cum Shot Lube
Artificial semen with almost natural consistency and color can be made based on corn starch, guar gum (E412) or glycerin. It can be used as a personal lubricant also. For making porn videos a mix from raw egg white and sugared milk seems to be famous, or even liquid soap. Though better tasting alternatives seem to be custard and glaze or some sugar icing. Just in case you don't know what to do with this funny liquid you can use it as a joke article.
Alternatives to Sexual Lubricants
Sometimes the fluid consistency of the lubricant is annoying. Here powder as used in baby care can be of help.
Others are annoyed by the application of a lubricant during intercourse. There special suppositories are helpful, but I don't know how to make them yourself.
And in other cases too much body liquids are causing not enough friction. A remedy for this should be worth a separate article (dry sex).
Medical Causes of a Dry Vagina
Sometimes dryness of the vaginal mucous membrane (vaginal dryness) is caused by medical reasons. Please cause a physician to become sure, this article can not replace professional assistance. Sometimes yogurt applied into the vagina every night for around two weeks regenerate the vaginal mucous membrane, so it can produce its own lubricant better.
Different oils (see warning above): cocos-oil, peanut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, joboba oil, almond oil, sesame oil, linseed oil et. al. vaseline, saliva, hand cream.
I would like to have a comparison of the different recipes for lubricants based on these criteria: condom compatibility, mucous membrane compatibility, price, erotic stimulans, taste, storage life.
Industrially manufactured lubricants often contain these ingredients: purified water, glycerin, propylene glycol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methylparaben, propylparaben.
